Recently one of our staff members, Sally Archibald, took some 3rd year students to the field to measure fire behaviour during a prescribed burn at Melville Koppies. Fires are a necessary part of these grassland ecosystems – many plants require fire for regeneration and reproduction. Applying appropriate fires in small conservation fragments inside the city requires knowledge of both fire ecology and fire behaviour.
